How to measure for a rooflight
- Measure the outside of the upstand (the timber kerb the rooflight sits on), edge to edge.
- Measure both directions in two places and use the smaller figure.
- The upstand should be at least 150mm above the finished roof, and level.
- Building a new opening? Size the upstand to suit the rooflight you want, then order once it's built and measured.
- Ordering an upstand from us? Enter the rooflight size you want and the upstand is made to match. We'll confirm the roof opening size with you before production starts.

About our made-to-measure walk-on rooflights
Walk-on rooflights use a thick toughened laminated top pane rated for foot traffic, so you can bring daylight into the room below a roof terrace or balcony without losing the space above. They also work in floors, letting light pass down to a lower level.
Each walk-on rooflight is made to measure in a slim aluminium frame. Units are argon filled and Low-E coated.
Walk-on rooflight sizes and options
Design your rooflight in the steps above and the price updates as you go. The designer offers:
- Size: from 500 × 500mm up to 1500 × 3000mm.
- Top surface: smooth, or anti-slip fritted for extra grip underfoot.
- Glass tint: clear, or blue, neutral, grey or bronze solar control.
- Frame colour: anthracite grey, black, white, agate grey or brown, or any RAL colour, powder coated to order.
- Dual colour: a different colour inside at no extra cost.
- Upstand: use your own upstand, or add an insulated upstand made to match.

Smooth or anti-slip?
A smooth top gives the clearest view through the glass. The anti-slip fritted surface adds texture for better grip, which is worth considering on an outdoor terrace or balcony that can get wet.
Solar-control tints help reduce glare and heat build-up in the room below, especially under a sunny, south-facing terrace.
Is a walk-on rooflight right for you?
Choose a walk-on rooflight when people will stand or walk on it. If the roof will not be used as a terrace, a standard flat glass rooflight gives a similar low profile and goes up to a larger size. You can compare every type on our skylights and roof lanterns page.

Lead time, delivery and guarantee
Walk-on rooflights are made to order in 5 to 10 working days and delivered across the UK. Delivery to UK mainland is £39 inc VAT, or free on orders over £300. Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland are by quote.
Frames and sealed units are covered by our 10-year guarantee, with 1 year on hardware. Trade customers get ex-VAT prices and 10% off with a trade account.
Questions about walk-on rooflights
Can a walk-on rooflight open?
No. Walk-on rooflights are fixed. If you need ventilation, see our opening rooflights.
Can I choose double or triple glazing?
The walk-on designer has a smooth or anti-slip top surface choice in place of the glazing choice, as the top pane is a thick toughened laminated pane rated for foot traffic.
Do you fit walk-on rooflights?
No, we supply only. Our find an installer page can help you locate a local fitter.
Can I return it?
Each rooflight is made to your sizes, so it can't be returned for a change of mind once production starts.
